Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Eve & Other Stories

@ PNC Arena – Raleigh, NC

November 20, 2019

This is the twentieth year Trans-Siberian Orchestra has been performing a Winter Tour.  This year they hit the road with their all new Christmas Eve and Other Stories show by the late Paul O’Neill and added new second set containing some of TSO’s greatest hits.

As in all previous years, Trans-Siberian Orchestra donates $1 to $2 for every ticket sold to select local charities. This year here in Raleigh, guitarist Chris Caffery presented a check to WRDU in the amount of $9244 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Trans-Siberian Orchestra has donated over $13 million to local and national charities since the band has been touring.

The first half of TSO’s holiday show, Christmas Eve & Other Stories,  is a rock opera about a angel’s journey to earth for God to find out what best represents everything good that has been done in the name of Christmas.

This portion of the show was narrated by Bryan Hicks and accompanied by singers who all perform individually. The set was full stage with set lighting and background graphics to set the mood.

The second part of the show was the new addition of TSO’s greatest hits. I myself was getting ready to leave not having been aware of the second part!

Between sets Chris Caffery talks about TSO’s history and the passing of it’s creator, Paul O’Neill, who passed in 2017. He tells the fans they will perform a never released song in the second half that Paul had written.  He also told us how performing in Raleigh is like a day off because they only do one show in Raleigh as to their usual two to three show days. Thanking the road crew.

The best of TSO was full production rock show with pyrotechnics, phenomenal light show and lasers out the wazoo! Graphics running around the full arena monitors and a lightning ball in back with the sound board.

Most of the photos are from my “nonprofessional” point and shoot camera that was allowed in for the show.  The first three songs I was allowed to shoot with my pro equipment as media.  However those just don’t cover the look and full feeling of this show. I must see if they will give me a working pass next time, so I can shoot every singer and part of the rock show.

Love this show! This is a must see yearly holiday tradition for the whole family. Whether TSO performs Paul O’Neill’s rock opera, The Ghosts of Christmas Eve as last year or O’Neill’s Christmas Eve & Other Stories as this year, it is a must see!!
